1 Le nom de Jésus est si doux 
À l'oreille d'un croyant ! 
Il apaise nos chagrins, guérit nos blessures, 
Et chasse notre peur. 

2 Il guérit l'esprit blessé 
Et apaise la poitrine troublée ; 
C'est la manne pour l'âme affamée, 
Et pour celui qui est fatigué, le repos. 

3 O Jésus, berger, gardien, ami, 
Mon prophète, mon prêtre, mon roi, 
Mon Seigneur, ma vie, mon chemin, ma fin, 
Accepte la louange que j'apporte. 

4 Que l'effort de mon cœur est faible, 
Comme ma pensée la plus chaude est froide ; 
Mais quand je te verrai tel que tu es, 
Je te louerai comme je dois le faire. 

5 Jusque-là, je voudrais que ton amour soit proclamé 
Avec chaque souffle fugace ;

in a believer's ear! 

It soothes our sorrows, heals our wounds, 

and drives away our fear. 

2 It makes the wounded spirit whole 

and calms the troubled breast; 

'tis manna to the hungry soul, 

and to the weary, rest. 

3 O Jesus, shepherd, guardian, friend, 

my Prophet, Priest, and King, 

my Lord, my Life, my Way, my End, 

accept the praise I bring. 

4 How weak the effort of my heart, 

how cold my warmest thought; 

but when I see you as you are, 

I'll praise you as I ought. 

5 Till then I would your love proclaim 

with every fleeting breath; 

and may the music of your name 

refresh my soul in death.
